01Social Technology / Consumer Platform

WhipIT Social

Africa's first experiential social media platform.

WhipIT is two apps in one: a modern social network — posts, chats, stories and short-form video — fused with an experiential layer of live maps, venues, events, ticketing, in-venue music and rewards. Flick. Whip. Connect.

Scope delivered

  • Native mobile apps (iOS & Android)
  • Web platform
  • Venue portal
  • Product design

The challenge

Mainstream social platforms optimise for screen time, filter reach through opaque systems and reward virality over participation. WhipIT set out to invert that: one platform where online energy converts into real-world attendance — people, places, events and music connected in a single app, engineered to absorb rapid consumer growth across African cities.

Product strategy

Build a social network and a real-world experiential layer as one product rather than two. Three motions carry the whole platform — Flick (capture the moment), Whip (send it instantly to people nearby, friends anywhere or a venue's live Jukebox) and Connect (chat, meet, attend, earn). Reach stays transparent, and Whip Points reward participation rather than passive scrolling.

User experience

Mobile-native journeys designed for three audiences in one interface. Individuals move fluidly between feed, map, events, Jukebox and chats. Venues and event hosts get enterprise tools for discovery, in-app ticket sales, real-time activation and performance insight. Creators and Worldstars get transparent visibility, monetisation, event hosting tools and direct community engagement — with a companion web experience and venue login for operators.

Technology solution

Native iOS and Android applications backed by cloud services for identity, media pipelines, real-time messaging, geolocation, event ticketing, payments and a points and rewards engine — plus a web platform and venue portal built on the same infrastructure and design system.

Outcome

WhipIT is live and publicly available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store, with venue onboarding running through the web portal and the experiential layer active across social, events and in-venue music.
